Lake Karapiro
The Year 5 & 6 students had lots of fun on camp getting to know one another better, challenging themselves, stepping outside of their comfort zones and making lots of new memories.
Day 1 was a challenging trek up Mount Maungatautiri - all the way to the 797m summit. Lots of insect and bird life were seen as well as a few great views.
Days 2 through to 4 were a hive of activity with all students giving lots of activities a go! Water based activities like waka ama, sailing, raft building, kayaking and the aqua slide were a huge hit. On dry land the kids tried out SNAG golf, orienteering, pedal karts, and archery. They also traveled to Cambridge and tried out the velodrome, did team building, and had education around World War 1 in a real life army trench. The winners of the Survival Team challenge were Mokopapa - Great work team!
Day 5 was a trip to the far side of Mount Maungatautiri to visit Sanctuary Mountain - an amazing ecological island trust that is working extremely hard to protect and regenerate our native birds, animals and plant species in a completely pest free environment. The highlights were seeing the tuatara sunning themselves in the sun and catching a glimpse of the rare takahe.
What a week - well done to all the students on such an great week and a big thanks to all the adults involved as well.
