Kia ora koutou, this week we have had a very positive meeting with the council and the police. The meeting was to discuss concerns and possible solutions for keeping students safe when travelling to and from school. Many ideas have been proposed and the cogs have begun to turn to find roading / traffic solutions. ln the meantime we have been advised by the council and police to use the big orange traffic cones ON THE ROADSIDE and lN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD at our main entrance (this is to further slow traffic and raise the awareness of a students crossing. We will continue to supervise our students after school crossing the road. Thank you to all the parents that wait patiently to cross at our direction. There has also been robust discussion for making the Mataura and Gladstone intersections safer.
A huge thank you for the parents and whanau that sent food and / or came down to help supervise and support our after school / evening kapahaka practice last week. A great success with a great turn out. We look forward to seeing you again later in the term (week 8) for another afternoon/evening practice.
We are super excited to report that room 9 is up and running, the students have all settled well and are enjoying the new environment. Max said “it’s cool in Room 9, because it has a tent and puzzles and books”. Jasmine said “lt’s cool because there’s cool games”. lsabelle said “lt’s amazing, I was really looking forward to coming to Room 9 because it has lots of cool stuff like a fluffy green mat and I like the maths and the reading”. Thanks to the parents that came down last week for coffee and cake and to meet Miss Davis. We encourage those that didn’t make it to pop in when you get a chance and introduce yourself to Gina (Miss Davis).

Our Year 5 netball and soccer teams and a rugby team went to Katikati on Monday to participate in the Northern Cluster Sevens tournament. A massive thank you to all whanau who took time out to help with transport and cheering along our teams. Congratulations also to all our gymsport competitors who performed well on Monday. East school had quite a few placings! Well done team! Our Hiphop team performed as well and took first place in their category. A huge Thank You to Tracey and Mrs Hughes for all your work with coaching these groups.
